A Special Education Teacher, or Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher, works with students with learning disabilities or special educational needs. Their duties include facilitating lessons suitable for students with disabilities, providing personal and academic support and designing activities to help students achieve learning objectives.

Responsibilities

* Deliver engaging lessons across the curriculum

* Special Education Teachers assess students’ skills and identify their educational needs to help their academic and social growth and development.

* Develop customised lesson plans to cater to diverse learning styles and special educational needs.

* Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive classroom environment.

* Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to support their development.

* Support students with additional needs through tailored tutoring and mentoring programmes.

* Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external specialists to ensure holistic student support.

* Organise extracurricular activities that promote student engagement and personal growth.

* Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and behavioural incidents in compliance with school policies.

Requirements

* Qualified teacher status with recognised certification for teaching at secondary level is preferred

* Proven experience in teaching high school students in the UK is required

* Strong communication skills to effectively engage students, parents, and colleagues.

* Knowledge of behaviour management techniques suitable for diverse classroom environments.

* Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs

* A genuine passion for education and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

* Organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities efficiently.
