Qualified Secondary Teacher - SEMH Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)

Teaching Personnel are currently working in partnership with a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) to recruit a motivated and committed Qualified Teacher to support pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
.

This role is open to qualified teachers with limited PRU or SEMH experience who are keen, eager to learn and passionate about making a difference
. The PRU has a strong, experienced pastoral and teaching team
, offering guidance, mentoring and ongoing support to help you develop confidence within alternative provision.

Pupils attending the PRU are unable to access mainstream education due to challenging behaviour, trauma-related experiences, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties and disrupted education
. Class sizes are small, allowing for a highly personalised and relationship-led approach to teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver adapted and engaging lessons across KS3 and/or KS4
  • Support pupils to re-engage with education through consistent, structured teaching
  • Create a safe, calm and supportive learning environment
  • Manage behaviour using positive, trauma-informed and restorative approaches
  • Deliver learning in small groups and 1:1 where required
  • Follow individual behaviour plans, risk assessments and EHCP targets with support
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams, SENCOs and external professionals
The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Be enthusiastic, motivated and keen to develop experience within SEMH and PRU settings
  • Demonstrate strong classroom presence and willingness to adapt teaching approaches
  • Be patient, resilient and reflective
  • Have good behaviour management foundations and be open to training
  • Communicate effectively and work well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Be committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

Previous PRU or SEMH experience is desirable but not essential - a positive attitude, consistency and commitment to learning are key.
