This role maintains and masters three of the following trades throughout the Medical Center’s facilities: electrical, structural, mechanical, plumbing/pipe fitting, locksmith, and HVAC. As a team leader, the specialist will supervise mechanics when assigned and work under general supervision.
Responsibilities- Electrical
- Install, repair, replace, and troubleshoot electrical circuits in three‑phase 208/480 V starters and motors.
- Install, repair, replace, and troubleshoot 115 V receptacles.
- Install, repair, replace, and troubleshoot circuits, ballasts, and switches in lighting systems.
- Install new electrical service, breaker panels, starters, and disconnects.
- Replace breakers ranging from 15 A to 400 A, 115 V–480 V.
- Install conduit (½″–2″), including layout, bends, couplings, clamps, and leveling.
- Run wiring sizes #14–#1 through conduits.
- Isolate defects in relays and control circuits using testing instruments.
- Maintain safe electrical practices and perform work according to the National Electrical Code.
- Structural
- Install, repair, and level drop ceilings (2×2 or 2×4).
- Install partition steel studding for building framing.
- Install door frame and door components.
- Run and secure sheetrock (3/8″–5/8″).
- Construct and install Formica cabinets and counters from sketches.
- Spackle and plaster sheetrock walls.
- Install, repair floor tiles and cove base.
- Demolish existing structure for renovations.
- Perform minor masonry repairs.
- Operate hand and power tools safely.
- Follow blueprints and diagrams.
- Mechanical
- Install, replace, and inspect bearings, seals, and couplings on shafts, motors, pumps, and blowers.
- Splice and install belts on chiggers.
- Diagnose motors, pumps, and compressor issues.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain machine room air handlers and exhaust equipment (pre‑filter, bag filter, louvers, pipe insulation, greasing, heat wheel).
- Maintain records of all repairs.
- Plumbing / Pipe Fitting
- Replace and repair steam piping (½″–3″).
- Troubleshoot steam regulators and traps.
- Thread pipes up to Schedule 80.
- Weld iron pipe and weld/sweat brazed copper pipe (¼″–4″).
- Replace sinks, toilets, water lines, drains, and faucets.
- Unclog sewer lines using power equipment.
Isolate water and steam lines for repairs. - Understand pre‑heat, reheat coils, spray humidifiers, chilled water coil and loops.
- Follow blueprints and perform work per the National Plumbing Code.
- HVAC / Refrigeration
- Change refrigerant on 1–20 t units and window units.
- Operate refrigerant charge for expansion devices.
- Install central refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems.
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, and install pneumatic controls.
- Area Maintenance Program
- Perform general maintenance, bed repairs, patient call repairs, and comfort‑care inspections.
- Maintain corridor light, emergency exit signage, and ceiling tile appearance.
- Respond quickly to requests and complete assigned floor work with minimal supervision.
- Schedule and log maintenance inspections and repairs.
- Other Duties
- Observe safety standards and wear protective equipment.
- Perform snow removal duties.
- Provide competent assessment, treatment, and/or care to patients as required.
- Perform additional duties as requested.
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational degree/certificate.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in trades: electrical, structural, mechanical, plumbing/pipe fitting.
Minimum rate of $24.98 hourly.
