Overview:
The certified Sterile Processing Technician within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) performs all tasks associated with the processing of surgical instruments and medical devices including cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization/high level disinfection; monitoring of environmental conditions, sterilization processes, and high-level disinfection; assembly and dispatching of case carts and emergency carts; and inventory and ordering of SPD supplies.
Responsibilities
- Assists in processing of instruments, surgical trays, and surgical case carts. Maintains knowledge of instruments and trays and can assemble trays and sets as detailed on set layout sheets. Operates machinery in the Decontamination and Processing area and identifies problems affecting product quality.
- Checks expiration dates on sterile items; identifies outdated items and takes appropriate action.
- Maintains proper phone etiquette and courteous communication with callers on the business unit and OR Hotline.
- Conducts daily soil rounds of medical units and returns items to SPD for processing.
- Performs Decontamination duties, cleans instruments, trays, and carts, and supports workflow in the Decontamination area.
- Records processed loads accurately; logs biological indicators and processes them per procedure; records outcomes of testing.
- Manages SPD department stock, rotates stock as needed, and maintains accuracy in duties.
- Assists in daily operations in the Supervisor’s or Coordinator’s absence as assigned, demonstrating ability to coordinate processing functions and support patient care.
- Operates steam and Sterrad sterilization equipment in compliance with manufacturer instructions and infection prevention policies.
- Physical requirements:
lifts a minimum of 30 lbs, pushes/pulls a minimum of 50 lbs, and stands for the length of shift. - Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with STERRAD sterilization.
Licenses and Certifications
- National Certification:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
Working Conditions
- Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs, pushes/pulls a minimum of 50 lbs, and stands for the length of shift.
Compensation
Minimum rate of $22.77 Hourly. The posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay at time of posting and may reflect a portion of total compensation in accordance with applicable law.
