Position Title:
Unit Assistant, FT, Days Olathe Inpatient Unit
Days - Full Time

Under the direction of the Nurse, the Unit Assistant completes clerical and receptionist duties such as answering the phone, transcribing and entering orders into computers, and organizing the nursing unit in an efficient, safe, and neat manner. Other duties may include ordering and maintaining supplies for the unit. The Unit Assistant must have excellent communication skills. It is imperative that they are able to communicate effectively using tact and sensitivity.
He/she must be self-motivated and able to work and make decisions with limited direct supervision, keeping appropriate others informed. The Unit Assistant practices within the organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
- Answer call lights and respond appropriately.
- As directed by a nurse, transports specimens to the lab and deliver blood/blood products from lab per procedures.
- Assembles, maintains, and disassembles charts properly according to policy.
- Assist with transport of patients to other departments or for discharge to home via ambulation or wheelchair.
- Communicate appropriate information to shift coordinator and/or nursing staff in a timely manner (i.e. physician phone calls, stat orders/labs, critical lab values, admissions, patient needs, etc.)
- Consistently meets work schedule.
- Demonstrate appropriate prioritization skills (i.e. stat orders, now orders, critical values, emergent patient needs, etc.)
- Demonstrates ability to retrieve data using the appropriate computer system.
- Order and maintain supplies and equipment as required on individual unit.
- Perform all non-clinical duties related to patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

- High School Graduate or GED.
- Previous Experience
- Previous Healthcare Experience
- CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
