Functional Family Therapist (Mental Health Clinician II) – Johnson County Mental Health, in the Family Focus program, provides clinical services to justice-involved youth, ages 12-18, referred by the Department of Corrections and diagnosed with severe emotional disabilities (SED) and their families. Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is used to maintain severely emotionally disturbed youth in the natural, least restrictive setting possible. The schedule requires evening availability.
Services primarily take place in the youth/families home, with an office location in Olathe. This team will utilize Functional Family Therapy as the primary mode of treatment. Training/experience with FFT and working with youth involved in Corrections is a plus. The position will remain open until filled. Johnson County has implemented a skill-based pay plan of up to $4200 annually for staff who have obtained licensure by the BSRB at the Clinical Level.
- Conducts comprehensive clinical assessments as part of intake and diagnostic processes, ongoing service provision, and crisis intervention; identify individual needs and diagnoses substance use and/or mental health disorders; assess risk for suicide and other safety concerns; determine the need for medication evaluation and referral; communicate information to individuals, families, and other stakeholders.
- Develops complex treatment and intervention plans to address clinical needs; network with community agencies to coordinate resources and services for comprehensive, intensive, or long‑term needs; encourage the establishment and maintenance of support systems; collaborate with other providers in plan development, implementation, and review.
- Provide psychotherapy and other clinical/therapeutic services for a designated caseload of individuals, groups, and families with complex or ongoing needs; ensure services align with individual plans; initiate and attend meetings; facilitate skill development and support groups; respond to emergencies or crisis requests; arrange for appropriate care and services; review and update diagnoses and levels of care.
- Complete and submit clinical documentation; evaluate progress against measurable goals; review and approve others’ plans to ensure appropriate level of care; monitor quality and effectiveness of services.
- Serve as the clinical expert on the treatment team by providing consultation to case managers, crisis intervention support, and acting as back-up to the Team Leader.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other Human Services field and Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure at the master's level in the area of focus are required.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Applicants who meet Kansas licensure requirements may be considered if licensure is obtained by time of employment offer and licensure is pending confirmation at the time of application.
- Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Kansas Behavioral Sciences license at the clinical level; licensed as a Masters or Clinical Addiction Counselor by the Behavioral Health Sciences Regulatory Board; experience in a community mental health setting preferred.
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
