Johnson County Mental Health is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of a On-Call,
Behavioral Health Specialist for the Youth Crisis Center
, a new program at the Johnson County Mental Health Center. The unit has 24/7 operations and typically individuals stay in the program for 3-5 days. This position is eligible for a shift differential specific to overnight hours ($1.50/hr), weekend hours ($0.75/hr), and evening hours ($0.75/hr). This position will remain open until filled.
Job duties include:
- Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs with limited supervision, provides crisis interventions (including evidence based practices to maintain the safety of individuals), monitors youth interactions and behaviors, monitors medication administration as prescribed, monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals.
- Teaches, coaches and provides guidance and support on various skills to enable productive lives of individuals; assists youth with managing their emotions, supports individual treatment/recovery goals and assists youth in developing positive coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers.
- Organizes and participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Transports individuals receiving services to appointments, activities, and/or work.
Minimum
Job Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a human services field are required. A valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record is preferred. Experience working with adolescents in a behavioral health setting is preferred.

Shifts:
Candidates are required to cover a minimum of 1 shift per month.
Annual Hour Limit: Candidates may work a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with adolescents in a behavioral health setting is preferred.
Education/Experience Substitutions: Education may be substituted for experience.
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
