Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Software Compliance Engineer to lead our efforts in navigating and implementing global software-based regulatory requirements at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. This role is critical in ensuring our products meet evolving compliance standards across multiple regions. The ideal candidate will be a proactive communicator and strategic thinker, capable of translating complex regulatory frameworks into actionable guidance.

This team offers you the chance to work on a variety of technologies that bring Garmin’s consumer products to life.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as subject matter expert on software-based product compliance, providing technical leadership and guidance to cross functional teams within Garmin
  • Monitor global regulatory and standards activities in collaboration with the regulatory affairs team to identify, interpret, and assess the impact of emerging laws and regulations on Garmin products.
  • Coordinate across business segments and product teams to understand software compliance requirements and drive the design of complaint solutions within the product’s architecture
  • Develop and maintain compliance documentation to support implementation, verification and certification activities
  • Define, implement and sustain compliance processes and procedures to ensure regulatory adherence while minimizing impact on product development teams
  • Serve as the product owner for software compliance tools to enable consistent, efficient execution across engineering and product teams.
  • Partner with project teams, the product security team, and legal to ensure accurate generation of compliance documentation (Declarations of Conformity requirements, technical files and risk assessments)
  • Manage and respond to software compliance inquiries, audit findings, and issues and drive corrective actions as necessary
  • Prepare and deliver software compliance status and risks to senior management and key stakeholders
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced software compliance engineers (Software Engineer 1 &
    2)
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field
    AND
    a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
    OR
    an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Understands production and operations issues as they relate to compliance engineering
  • Ability to explain and document regulatory and standards requirements and constructively critique compliance plans written by teammates
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply complex legal and regulatory frameworks to internal policies and operational practices.
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience and/or knowledge of industry regulations and standards (NIST, ISO, CIS, EU RED cybersecurity, EU CRA, etc)
  • Previous experience developing engineering processes
  • Previous software development experience
  • Previous experience in Technology Management, Partner Management, and/or Project Management
