Overview
We are seeking a full-time CAE / Modeling and Simulation Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for engaging in computational simulation activities and serving as a subject matter expert for modeling and simulation within the Mechanical Engineering department.
Essential Functions- Lead specific computational simulation activities becoming an in-house expert on modeling and simulation
- Stay immersed/educated in state-of-the-art techniques and tools in computational simulation and related topics
- Interface with Mechanical Design Engineers in order to understand how to best serve their needs
- Work with all disciplines to obtain accurate input conditions for simulation, or if unavailable develop guidelines for estimation
- Prepare models for simulation, converting CAD into simplified/optimized meshed models
- Complete analysis on models optimizing settings, run convergence checks to validate accuracy of the predictions and distribute results
- Drive efforts to validate simulation through physical testing of hardware, which requires liaising with electrical and software engineering
- Undertake testing to improve accuracy of measurements and optimize testing techniques
- Write/distribute reports comparing accuracy of simulation and recommendations for continual improvement
- Create recommended processes for efficient running of simulation, providing training, advice or oversight as required
- Develop/maintain design guidelines and complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin products
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Knowledge and experience running computational simulation (FEA)
- Possess detailed LS-DYNA experience
- Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model moderately complex parts
- Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of this job
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering AND a minimum of 3 years relevant experience
- Familiarity with Altair Hyper Mesh and Hyperworks
- Experience using Solid Works or Onshape CAD software
- Previous work experience running FEA with consumer products
- Experience working with a variety of materials - metal, silicone, rubbers, plastics, etc
- Superior knowledge and experience of using computational simulation and correlation to real world results
- Strong background in dynamic simulations (drop/shock)
