POSITION SUMMARY

The Principal / Director of Career Pathways serves as the district’s leader for advanced career pathways, innovation programming, and technical education systems, while also functioning as the building administrator for the Olathe Public Schools Innovation Campus and Olathe Advance Technical Center.

This position integrates leadership with site-based administrative responsibilities to ensure rigorous, industry-aligned, future-focused programming that prepares students for post-secondary success and workforce readiness.

This position oversees two and four-year academies across the district, real-world learning opportunities, and innovation centered facilities while ensuring operational excellence, fiscal responsibility, compliance, and equitable access for all students.

The position reports to Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education and also works collaboratively with the Chief Academic Officer.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Serve as the lead building administrator for both the Olathe Public Schools Innovation Campus (OPSIC) and the Olathe Advanced Technical Center (OATC).
  • Ensure a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
  • Oversee student discipline and behavioral systems.
  • Supervise and evaluate instructional staff and support personnel.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on student academic, technical, and social-emotional growth.
  • Manage daily operations of OPSIC & OATC programs including all two and four-year academies and other off-site center-based programs.
  • Coordinate scheduling and shared enrollment structures with high school principals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with sending schools and partnering districts.
  • Support and attend school and community functions.

II. District Innovation & Advanced Programming Leadership

  • Lead and oversee all district-wide two and four-year academies.
  • Establish protocols for needs analysis, program review, continuous improvement, program expansion, and pathway viability.
  • Work with the Learning Services department on curriculum development to ensure rigor, relevance, certification alignment, and post-secondary success.
  • Ensure programming meets state graduation requirements and post-secondary asset expectations.
  • Lead the development and expansion of real world learning (RWL), internships, industry credentials, and post-secondary partnerships.
  • Implement and oversee STEM initiatives throughout the district including opportunities for K-8 students.
  • Lead revisioning and development of innovation centered learning spaces and technical facilities.

III. Industry, Workforce & Postsecondary Partnerships

  • Develop and sustain strong partnerships with business, industry, workforce agencies, and post-secondary institutions.
  • Establish and facilitate advisory boards aligned to industry standards.
  • Expand internship and apprenticeship pipelines for students to attain post-secondary asset graduation requirements.
  • Collaborate with community partners to align programming with workforce needs.
  • Serve as the district liaison to community and economic development organizations.

IV. Personnel Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Supervise, and evaluate a high-performing team of instructors and industry partners to support staff.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and retention of highly qualified staff.
  • Provide professional learning focused on instructional growth, innovation, and career readiness.
  • Conduct evaluations in accordance with district policy and state requirements.
  • Foster a collaborative, collegial culture across buildings and departments.

V. Fiscal, Operational & Compliance Management
