Position SummaryThe 12-month Full-Time Assistant Professor in the Health Occupations will perform the duties expected of full-time faculty, including maintaining scheduled office hours; developing and revising curriculum; developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in college, division, and department meetings; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned. They will also be responsible for ensuring Certified Nurse Aide checkoffs are completed appropriately and within regulatory standards.
The individual will assist the director of the Health Occupation program in orienting new faculty as needed and conduct peer reviews of CNA and CMA courses.
- Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN)
- A minimum of one year or 1,750 hours in long-term care
- Registered Nursing License in Kansas or a Multi-State License
- 3-5 years of clinical work experience with a focus on long-term care
- Class, lab, and/or teaching ability
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing Education
- 5+ years in long-term care

- Effective teaching requires content expertise: faculty must demonstrate deep subject knowledge, current research, methodologies, tools and techniques, and meaningful applications. Faculty members are expected to:
- Possess thorough and accurate knowledge of their field, including the ability to evaluate and apply content.
- Be committed to professional development by staying current in their discipline.
- Maintain faculty credentials as required by the college’s accrediting agencies.
- Select and develop instructional materials; plan and organize instruction; create assignments to promote learning, communication skills, and higher-order thinking; and use instructional technology appropriately.
- Use a variety of proven engagement and assessment methods to facilitate mastery of content.
- Provide constructive feedback and evaluate student learning by applying course competencies and evaluating progress.
- Work to increase teaching effectiveness through appropriate teaching strategies and adapt methods to diverse student needs.
- Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills to convey subject matter
- Provide timely, substantive feedback in appropriate forms
- Attend classes as scheduled and arrange substitutes if absent; be accessible to students via email, technology, or office hours
- Prepare and distribute syllabi per procedures and follow the final exam schedule
- Maintain accurate records of students’ academic standing and provide final grades timely
- Respect confidentiality of student information and respond to grade questions and appeals
