Seeking a CAPTAIN
General
Summary:
The Police Captain is a sworn command-level law enforcement officer of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation responsible for the leadership, management, and oversight of assigned law-enforcement operations within the Light horse Community Police. The position provides strategic and operational direction to ensure effective patrol services, community policing, and enforcement activities are conducted lawfully, professionally, and in alignment with departmental policy and community expectations.
Duties are performed within the Nation's jurisdiction, including Indian Country as defined in 18 U.S.C., and include responsibility for operational planning, personnel supervision, resource management, and coordination with internal and external partners.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide command-level leadership of assigned law enforcement units
• Plan, direct, and oversee daily operations and special assignments
• Supervise and evaluate supervisory personnel
• Ensure compliance with applicable law, departmental policy, and constitutional policing standards
• Develop operational plans, staffing strategies, and deployment priorities
• Review incidents and reports for legality, effectiveness, and policy compliance
• Respond to critical incidents and assume command responsibility
• Coordinate with Tribal departments and partner agencies
• Participate in budget, equipment, and resource planning
• Represent the Department in official meetings and community engagements
• Perform other duties consistent with command responsibilities
USE OF FORCE / WORK CONDITIONS
This is a sworn law enforcement position requiring the ability to carry firearms and use force in accordance with law and policy. Work may include irregular hours, emergency response, and administrative command duties.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field. CLEET Basic Police Officer Certification (or equivalent)
Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field Demonstrated supervisory and command experience
Additional licenses required:
Must possess and maintain Basic Police Officer Certification through CLEET or equivalent recognized certification.
Must meet minimum age and eligibility requirements for sworn law-enforcement certification under applicable law.
