Job Description

Position Title: Substitute Bus Driver

FLSA: Non‑exempt

Reports To: Director of Operations

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • CDL (Commercial driver's license with passenger endorsements)
  • Oklahoma Bus Drivers Certification
  • Must pass physical exam to include vision acuity and drug testing
  • An investigation must reveal a satisfactory driving record and no convictions or pleading guilty pursuant to drug/alcohol related or felony arrests.
Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain a prescribed route and schedule in the loading and discharging of students, as determined by the transportation supervisor.
  • Comply with legal controls concerning public school buses and motor vehicle laws as prescribed by federal and state regulatory agencies.
  • Perform daily pre‑trip inspections and submit results to the appropriate department.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment within the confines of the school bus.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to district policies in regard to student behavior management and disciplinary procedures.
  • Participate in periodic emergency evacuation drills.
  • Attend state certified driver training refresher courses as needed.
  • Comply with district requirements of annual physical examinations and driving record checks as previously described.
  • Keep the bus swept and clean as possible.
Additional Job Functions
  • Provide services for activity trips as assigned.
  • Assist in training of driver candidates when appropriate and assigned.
  • Participate in periodic performance evaluations.
  • Attend workshops and training sessions, which are provided by the department.
  • Perform other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be required to accomplish essential job functions as directed by the appropriate administrator(s).
  • Promote a positive image.
