Short Order Cook

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and efficient Short Order Cook to join our food service team at a busy travel plaza. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing fast, high‑quality meals in a high‑traffic environment catering to travelers, truckers, and tourists. You’ll work in a fast‑paced kitchen preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner items with consistency and attention to food safety.

• Prepare made‑to‑order meals such as burgers, sandwiches, eggs, pancakes, and other short order items
• Operate grills, fryers, and other kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
• Follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all health and safety standards are met
• Stock and restock stations with necessary supplies
• Communicate effectively with front counter staff and other kitchen team members
• Ensure orders are completed accurately and in a timely manner
• Assist with inventory rotation and food storage

• Previous experience as a short order cook or line cooks preferred
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
• Strong time management and communication skills
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and variable shifts

• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Lift up to 40 lbs. as needed
• Work in a hot and noisy kitchen environment
