Compensation

The starting pay for this position is $44,000/year. After successful completion of a one-year trial period with OTRD, the rate of pay may increase to $45,325/year.

Job Description

Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the management, supervision, or assisting in the management of golf course grounds and maintenance. This includes support for turf management operations, landscaping, facility upkeep, and the execution of seasonal and long-term maintenance programs to ensure the course meets quality standards.

Typical Functions
  • Assists in managing and maintaining golf course property, including turf, landscaping, irrigation systems, and clubhouse grounds.
  • Maintains open communication with the golf course and park operations team regarding activities and scheduling.
  • Coordinates the daily maintenance operations with appropriate staff.
  • Inspects the golf course and associated facilities, reports any issue and/or recommends improvements, and may perform play-through evaluations to assess course conditions.
  • Assists in planning and execution of maintenance and project work based on agronomic principles.
  • Supports turf and landscape care, diagnoses and treats turf and plant health issues, and supports pest management efforts.
  • Supervises and trains assigned staff which may include pro-shop personnel, maintenance staff, or groundskeeping staff and seasonal workers, including training and scheduling.
  • Ensures safe operation of equipment and tools by team members.
  • Manages or assists in the management of inventories of materials and supplies and purchasing or recommending purchases within budget guidelines.
  • Maintains documentation and records relevant to course upkeep, staffing, and supply usage.
  • Supervises assigned staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Level Descriptor

Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others. At this level, incumbents are responsible for independently managing the full range of operations associated with a golf course.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Competencies

In addition to the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies identified in lower level(s), Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

required at this level include knowledge of turf grass maintenance practices; horticulture and plant health; of lawn care and landscaping operations; of irrigation systems; of greenhouse and nursery techniques; and of basic business administration principles.

Ability is required to diagnose plant diseases; to apply safe chemical treatment procedures; to supervise the work of others; to use maintenance equipment; maintain effective working relationships; to follow written and oral instructions; and to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

Education And Experience

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of five (5) years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or golf course operations; OR a bachelor’s degree in horticulture, landscaping, business administration or a closely related field and one (1) year of relevant experience; OR an associate’s degree in horticulture, landscaping, or a closely related field and three (3) years of relevant experience.

Special Requirements

Some positions may require possession of a valid Oklahoma Chemical Applicators License within one (1) year of appointment.

Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at the time of appointment.

May be required to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
