The LPN serves as the clinical support to the physician and advanced practice providers in the clinic. Use nursing process and practice based on established standards. Deliver positive patient experience through efficient data gathering, accurate documentation and follow through of care plan.
Responsibilities- Accurately dispense and chart medications ordered by physicians and nurse practitioners.
- Administer medications orally or by intramuscular or intradermal injections to patients through the lifespan.
- Assist physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants with specialized procedures (eg Norplant and IUD insertion or removal, biopsies).
- Correctly assess patient’s vital signs, anthropometric measurements, and chart them accurately.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
- Monitor medical supplies and stock medications, and stock treatment rooms.
- Perform certain laboratory tests including urinalysis dipstick, urine pregnancy tests, hematocrits and others as defined by clinic.
- Review laboratory results and refer all abnormal results to the correct provider.
- Triage patient phone calls for minor health problems and refer complicated illness to nurse, nurse practitioner or physician.
- Set up rooms for patients and/or procedures.
- Take patient into room and perform and document initial patient interview.
- Perform clerical duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an approved school of Licensed Practical Nursing.
- 2 years LPN physician office experience preferred.
- Ability to work in an automated environment.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Thorough knowledge of practical nursing theory, standard practices, rules and regulations related to licensed practical nursing, anatomy and physiology, aseptic technique.
- Ability to deal with a variety of patients, staff, health care providers and community representatives.
Current license to practice as a licensed practical nurse in the State of Oklahoma.
