Job Summary

Responsible for the day to day operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Power Generation facility to include equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors, filters, water treatment systems, combustion turbines, and generators. (The units at this plant are Simple Cycle 7FA’s and LM6000's).

  • Complex responsibilities related to primary focus of job area. Uses best practices and in-depth business knowledge to solve complex problems and improve products or services. May adapt procedures, processes and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of position.
Essential Functions
  • Reads, interprets, and utilizes all plant drawings to perform daily operations and maintenance activities.
  • Completes and publishes calibration and testing reports for documentation purposes.
  • Performs required testing of various safety systems such as ESD, fire detection and gas detection systems.
  • Effectively and efficiently troubleshoots and maintains all AC/DC control circuits and components.
  • Serves as a technical resource to operations personnel and lower technician positions.
  • Schedules and coordinates daily activities with peer operations personnel and is able to negotiate scheduling conflicts.
  • Performs complex configuration and calibration of process and safety instrumentation utilized in the multitude of processes involved in electrical generation.
  • Provides detailed troubleshooting and programming modifications for Programmable Logic Control/Distributed Control Systems and HMI systems.
  • Directs, plans and conducts assignments of a complex nature serving in a lead role.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Executes clearance procedures.
  • Utilizes SAP/PM system for equipment history and verification of work performed.
  • Repairs, inspects and maintains boiler and boiler auxiliariesenerator auxiliaries, also fuel supply equipment and auxiliaries, if applicable.
  • Follows all safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Takes corrective action and/or initiates requests for equipment repair.
  • Identifies abnormal equipment operations.
  • Keeps logs, records data and verbally communicates plant conditions.
  • Monitors, analyzes and performs boiler and cooling water chemistry tests.
  • May act as Operating Authority, as required.
  • Operates plant from Control Room or field as needed, with limited to no supervision.
  • Monitors, operates and checks equipment.
  • Assists in the training and mentoring of less experienced team members.
  • Directs activities of craft contractors and vendors.
  • Continually seeks process improvement to save cost and increase efficiency.
  • Performs complex mechanical maintenance.
  • Serves as a mentor and assists with training entry level technicians.
  • Works with other craft and plant personnel as required.
  • Reads and interprets drawings and prints.
  • Performs general craft tasks, operates various industrial equipment, and uses power hand tools.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in a mechanical or technical discipline, and 5 years experience in a mechanical or technical field; or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years experience in a mechanical or technical field; or
  • Prior military experience for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214, and 6 years experience in a mechanical or technical field; or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 direct plant experience at the same Power Plant and successful completion of Board Review.
  • A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in a mechanical or technical field is equivalent to 1 year of mechanical or technical experience.
  • Experience must include 3 years experience in a power plant or other process controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing.
Working Conditions
  • May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include on-call and call-outs.
  • May work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.
  • Obtain or maintain required certifications.
