The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations and ensuring accurate financial reporting for a large-scale transportation organization. This role manages general ledger activities, revenue and cost accounting, compliance, and financial controls across multiple operational divisions (e.g., fleet operations, logistics, maintenance, fuel management). The Accounting Manager ensures adherence to GAAP/IFRS standards and supports strategic decision-making through accurate and timely financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reports
- Ensure accuracy of revenue recognition (freight, passenger, contract services)
- Monitor accruals, prepaids, depreciation, and asset capitalization (fleet & equipment)
- Track and analyze transportation-specific costs (fuel, maintenance, labor, leasing)
- Monitor fleet asset accounting and depreciation schedules
- Oversee job costing and route profitability analysis
- Partner with operations leadership to review cost drivers and margins
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry reporting requirements
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Coordinate internal and external audits
- Oversee regulatory reporting (e.g., DOT compliance financial disclosures if applicable)
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff (AP, AR, payroll, GL accountants)
- Delegate workload and monitor performance
- Support professional development and training initiatives
- Assist in annual budgeting and financial forecasting processes
- Monitor budget vs. actual performance
- Provide variance analysis and recommendations
- Oversee ERP and accounting system optimization
- Improve accounting workflows and automation
- Ensure data integrity across financial systems
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or CMA preferred
Experience:
- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 2–3+ years in a supervisory role
- Experience in transportation, logistics, trucking, freight, or fleet-intensive industries preferred
Compensation: $100,000 to $120,000 annually
Compensation is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications
