SummaryAbility First’s Internship program is a unique opportunity for current participants at our sights to gain real‑world experience within the Human Resources Department.
This internship is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, or a related field who want practical experience in a collaborative HR setting. Interns will work closely with the HR and Operations teams on a variety of administrative and project‑based tasks that support the employee experience from recruitment to retention.
Ideal candidates will be self‑motivated, hard‑working, and creative. They will demonstrate a professional demeanor, work well with others, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Interns are expected to be able to commute to the various Ability First Locations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:Interns will work directly with the Chief People Officer and Human Resources team to support key HR functions and initiatives. Responsibilities may include assisting with recruitment efforts (such as job postings, screening applicants, and scheduling interviews), supporting onboarding processes, maintaining employee records, and helping coordinate employee engagement activities. Interns will also contribute to special HR projects related to training and development, retention strategies, and process improvement.
Ideal candidates are organized, detail‑oriented, and eager to learn about the full employee lifecycle within a collaborative and mission‑driven organization.
- Provide valuable support in carrying out the day‑to‑day HR activities for the organization.
- Maintain the accuracy of candidate applications, organize and screen CVs and resumes, manage job ads, and assist in the implementation of company policies.
- Files documents and answers client and employee inquiries.
- Quality checks on reports and sending documents for signatures (Adobe).
- Participate and help organize Career Days/Job Fairs and company social and networking events.
- Create surveys on staff satisfaction and benefits.
- Research projects around analytics and trends in the HR department.
- Able to demonstrate professional work ethic.
- Able to maintain a flexible work schedule.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization.
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License or State required.
- Must be at least 18‑24 years of age is required.
- An interest in Human Resources is preferred.
- Must be currently attending a university or college while pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree to be considered for the position.
- Familiar with Ability First and the services received at any of our sites.
- Willingness to work with folks of diverse experiences and backgrounds
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors.
- Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15‑20 pounds at times.
