The Electrical Engineer provides technical support for substation relaying, metering design, system protection, communications configuration, and NERC compliance activities. Working under close supervision, this role applies foundational engineering principles to support project design, analysis, event investigation, and day-to-day operational needs.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support for substation relaying, metering design, system protection, and communications configuration.
- Support NERC compliance activities, including data collection, review, and reporting.
- Participate in mis-operation reviews and system event analysis.
- Assist in developing SCADA system point lists and verify their accuracy.
- Contribute to configuration and troubleshooting of communications processors, such as SEL RTAC.
- Assist with protective relay settings development, logic creation, and system modeling.
- Perform basic financial and project cost analyses.
- Support on-site substation checkout, commissioning, and field technical support.
- Investigate system outages and abnormal load conditions.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and meeting minutes.
- Promote and uphold safety policies, reporting safety concerns.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (required).
- 0–5 years of engineering experience.
- Foundational understanding of substation relaying and metering design principles.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SEL software suite, Aspen, relay event analysis tools, and SCADA systems.
- Working knowledge of electrical components: protective relays, revenue meters, communications processors, power transformers, PTs, CTs, circuit breakers, switchers, capacitor banks, reactors, transmission lines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in technical work.
- Ability to learn quickly, troubleshoot, and problem-solve.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation preferred; progress toward PE licensure encouraged.
