Overview
Position Summary This professional staff position leads and supports compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, permits and approvals. The position will be responsible to develop and maintain Federal and state regulatory compliance programs; serve as facility subject matter expert for assigned media, including routine monitoring, investigating, analyzing, reporting (internal and external) and recordkeeping; communicate performance results to operations and other stakeholders;
coordinate and notify emergency release and discharge reporting to appropriate agencies; manage and maintain assigned federal and state environmental permits, plans and approvals; prepare and deliver training and compliance procedures to stakeholders and supporting staff, develop and maintain technical competencies; and peer review other Environmental Staff’s work for accuracy and completeness.

The position will require routine interfacing with Operations, Maintenance, Technical Services, Project Engineering, other refinery department personnel and contractors, and periodic exposure to regulatory agencies and the public.
Education Requirements- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering preferred. Other Engineering and related technical degree will be considered.
- Professional Engineer or Engineering-in-Training (EIT), preferred.
- 3+ years of industry experience required; 7+ years of experience preferred.
- 2+ years of refinery or chemical industry environmental experience required.
- Operations or technical services experience preferred.
- Wastewater management, treatment and compliance experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, with solid mathematical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills required.
- Desire to serve as the environmental wastewater lead and actively support department initiatives.
- Understanding how to read P& s and PFDs required.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Flexibility to occasionally adjust work schedule to meet changing operational needs.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English required.
- Strong verbal and technical writing and presentation skills required.
- Intermediate to advance computer skills using Microsoft Office products (Word processing, graphics, spreadsheet required).
- Monitor daily refinery environmental performance as the environmental compliance engineer for assigned media.
- Assist refinery personnel to avoid deviations. Promptly alert refinery personnel of any deviations.
- Prepare and submit wastewater compliance reports including Discharge Monitoring Reports and other monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports as assigned.
- Maintain the Wynnewood Field Lab certification and monitor performance of third-party laboratories.
- Participate in regulatory inspections, audits, and reviews related to assigned media.
- Prepare and submit permit renewals and modifications.
- Effectively manage time and resources to achieve deadlines and prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment.
- Lead or participate in Incident Investigations of Environmental Events and Root Cause Analysis of environmental deviations.
