Representative Duties

Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services.

  • Provide academic counseling services to general and special program student populations.
  • Assist students with problems related to academic progress.
  • Participate in faculty and departmental meetings.
  • Participate in all faculty training days.
  • Ability to develop working relationships with college faculty, staff, and community groups.
  • Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the District.
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources for information on other student services.
  • Work cooperatively within the college community.
  • Foster a positive working environment that is free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias.
  • Demonstrate a respect for the dignity of everyone.

Employment Standards

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements: All faculty must meet state‑adopted minimum qualifications or the locally established equivalencies.

Counseling
  • Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,
  • OR the equivalent.
Demonstrated Sensitivity
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
