RoleSummary
Program Aides On‑Call are generalists responsible for providing educational, relational, and social experiences for infants, toddlers, and/or preschool‑aged children. This position reports to the Education and Inclusion Manager or Center Director and may involve travel to various program sites and home visits. Aides support daily classroom management and may be assigned to classrooms, centers, bus routes, cafeterias, or kitchens as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Application of clear practice and procedure in day‑to‑day execution of the job.
- Organize self and manage time to achieve objectives.
- Keep manager informed of important issues.
- Build effective relationships within the workgroup and with children/families.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Assist classroom staff in all activities, including copying newsletters, cutting materials, and making phone calls.
- Serve as a temporary substitute for the Assistant Teacher or Teacher as needed.
- Provide custodial support such as picking up trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows, and minor maintenance.
- Perform routine kitchen tasks (dishwashing, portioning, logging temperature, preparing food for children with special needs).
- Participate in food service cleanup, inventory, and other tasks as requested.
- Assist Cook or Assistant Cook in all kitchen duties.
- May serve as a Bus Monitor.
- Attend all workshops, meetings, staff and parent meetings, and community activities.
- Understand Head Start Program Performance Standards and local licensing regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
- Adhere to Save the Children Head Start Employee Handbook and related policies.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Certification required by federal, state, or local Head Start or childcare regulations.
- Obtain and maintain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of basics of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool‑aged children.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to relate sensitively with children and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and families.
- Ability to follow directions and take initiative.
- Maintain confidentiality of families’ information.
- Ability to work with children with disabilities.
- Physical requirements:
ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 5‑10 lbs constantly. - Background check requirements, including criminal records, sex offender registry, employment and education verification, and child abuse registry check where required.
- Valid driver’s license and compliance with Save the Children policies for safe vehicle operation.
- Preference for current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents.
Base pay starts at $15 per hour. Actual base salary may vary based on experience, credentials, and internal comparability.
