Overview
Staff Accountant position in the Accounting department. Full-Time Non-Exempt wage: TBD. The Staff Accountant assists in the control, review, consolidation and reporting of the consolidated balance sheet and aids the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in pre-audit preparation of the trial balance. The highest duty of this position is to provide effective and timely service to Tribal members.

- Assists with grant reporting and analysis as directed.
- Assist with accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll processing as directed.
- Manage fixed asset tracking and processing.
- Reconcile and prepare quarterly tax reports, year-end W-2’s and 1099’s.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and provide review and analysis.
- Collaborate with tribal department heads to develop budgets.
- Prepare and transmit accurate payroll for Tribal employees on a rotation schedule.
- Assist with preparation of year-end trial balance worksheets and analysis.
- Post journal entries to the monthly and annual consolidations.
- Represents the Tribe in a professional manner at all times, when working with Tribal members, in dealing with outside entities, and in situations with fellow employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
- Minimum of 3-4 years of proven experience in accounting.
- Fund accounting experience preferred.
- Excels in retaining and recalling information
- Able to remain calm and professional when under pressure
- Able to handle highly sensitive information in such a way as to ensure confidentiality. If confidential information is shared, it is grounds for immediate termination.

- Excellent attention to detail required.
- Demonstrates a strong working understanding of OMB Circulars.

- Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution; able to remain calm and professional when under pressure
- Current/valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must be able to complete pre-employment drug test with a negative result
- Must have favorable verifiable work history and references
Legally enrolled Eastern Shawnee Tribal members shall be given preference if the tribal member’s experience, qualifications, training, and all other criteria including the job posting are equal. Tribal Members or Citizens of other federally recognized Tribes shall have second preference following the same criteria, followed by any other applicants. (Resolution # 021011-R-03) Only Certified Degree of Indian Blood cards will be accepted as verification of Native American Heritage for other tribes.
