Operate commercial motor vehicles safely to transport materials and equipment between designated locations. Responsible for loading/unloading operations, maintaining accurate delivery records, and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
Responsibilities- Operate Class A commercial motor vehicles on public roads to transport materials between plant locations and off-site facilities
- Plan efficient routes and ensure timely delivery of materials while adhering to DOT hours of service regulations
- Identify, verify, and secure items for transport according to company protocols
- Operate forklift equipment to load and unload freight carriers safely and efficiently
- Review and verify freight bills, packing slips, and requisitions for accuracy and completeness
- Report discrepancies to appropriate personnel and maintain accurate delivery documentation
- Maintain off-site storage facilities in organized, clean, and accessible condition
- Manage inventory placement to optimize space utilization and material accessibility
- Conduct regular facility inspections and report maintenance needs
- Switch out scrap trailers and position trailers as required for operational needs
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections according to DOT requirements
- Maintain trucks and trailers in clean, safe operating condition
- Immediately report equipment irregularities, safety concerns, or maintenance needs to supervisor
- Maintain off-premises areas in clean, organized condition including sweeping, dusting, and waste removal
- Complete additional assignments of similar or lesser complexity as directed
- Maintain professional interactions with all employees, customers, and vendors
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and company policies
- Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 10 hours)
- Capability to lift, push, weighing up to 50 pounds
- Good vision and ability to read packing slips, requisitions, and material labels
- Manual dexterity to operate equipment and complete written reports
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required
- Current DOT medical certification
- Previous commercial driving experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interpret work orders and follow detailed instructions
- Basic mathematical skills for inventory management
- Proficiency in completing material transfer reports and documentation
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety procedures
- Commercial trucks and trailers
- Hand trucks and dollies
- Required PPE: safety shoes
- Primary work locations: warehouse facilities and off-site storage areas
- Non-climate-controlled environments
- Exposure to vehicle exhaust, weather conditions, and industrial noise
- Occ work in confined spaces or at heights
- Full-time position with potential for overtime
- May require early morning starts or extended hours based on operational needs
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during loading/unloading operations
Prolonged sitting, frequent lifting, and walking on various surfaces.
