Position: Swim Lessons Coordinator, Edward L Gaylord "Downtown" YMCA

Position Description

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Swim Lessons Coordinator to assist with the planning, scheduling, and delivery of our swimming instruction programs. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to community health and safety by ensuring high-quality swim lessons for participants of all ages and skill levels. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for promoting water safety.

  • Develop and implement swim lesson schedules that meet the needs of various age groups and skill levels
  • Coordinate with swim instructors to ensure effective lesson delivery and adherence to safety standards
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate swim instructors and lifeguards
  • Monitor and maintain equipment, facilities, and safety protocols to ensure a safe learning environment
  • Manage participant registration, attendance, and feedback to enhance program quality
  • Promote swim programs through community outreach, marketing, and partnership development
  • Track program budgets, expenses, and resources to ensure efficient operations
  • Maintain accurate records of participant progress and instructor performance
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Proven experience in swim instruction, coaching, or aquatic program management
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Knowledge of water safety standards and first aid/CPR certification
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Customer service-oriented mindset with a focus on participant satisfaction
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • High school diploma equivalent; additional certifications in aquatic management or related fields are a plus
Requirements
  • Must stay current in CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and show technical skills in swimming instruction, lifeguarding and skills in supervision of others.
  • One year of previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Must have personal characteristics consistent with the Character Development Values.
  • Must be able to communicate with a variety of ages.
  • Must possess YMCA Lifeguard Certification (or from another nationally recognized certifying organization).
  • Should also possess Instructor certifications in swimming.
  • Will require CPO certification within three months of employment and receive additional YMCA aquatic certifications as trainings become available.
