Lifeguard II (Part-Time/Seasonal) - Open to Former City of Oklahoma City Employees Only – City Job Description
OPEN TO FORMER CITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY EMPLOYEES ONLY -- RETURNING LIFEGUARDS
PAY
15.00 - $16.25 Hourly
The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.
Seasonal employment is expected to begin on April 15 and last through October 15, 2026.
PREFERRED LIFEGUARD PROGRAM INCENTIVE: $100.00
To receive the incentive, applicants must:
- Have worked the summer of 2025 as a Lifeguard with the City of Oklahoma City; and
- Submit an application by 11:59 p.m., February 27, 2026; and
- Accept a conditional offer of employment by March 6, 2026; and
- Must have submitted hiring paperwork, including background investigation forms, by the end of business March 20, 2026; and
- Must have completed the drug screening by April 17, 2026; and
- Must have completed all mandatory training, including orientation by May 15, 2026; and
- Must work all scheduled shifts during the week of May 22-28, 2026.
ADDITIONAL
INCENTIVES:
- $200 - Bonus for working 100 hours from May 23 to June 30, 2026.
- $200 - Bonus for working 100 hours from July 1 to July 31, 2026.
- $100 - End of season bonus for working through September 3, 2026.
Note: All approved incentives are contingent upon employee being in good standing without performance issues.

POSITION DESIGNATION
This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is located in the Recreation, Health, and Wellness Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is responsible for functioning as a lead worker at a municipal swimming facility. Typical duties include: performing duties and responsibilities consistent with those of a lifeguard; preparing work schedules and assigning lifeguards to duty stations, and giving instruction in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters;
and overseeing lifeguards in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations. The necessary skills, knowledge, and ability and/or licenses and certifications to perform departmental specific tasks must be acquired prior to assuming the duties of the position. Applicants for this position must have completed Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module prior to hire.
Ability to travel is required.
