Position Summary
Position is responsible for supervising and overseeing a variety of skilled work related to the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including installation, preventative maintenance and service calls.
Essential Duties- Supervises a team of HVAC journeyman, contractors, and apprentices to ensure completion of work orders in a timely manner and ensures all city codes, OSHA and EPA regulations have been followed.
- Oversees the opening and inspecting air handling, cooling and heating equipment, recognizing, repairing or replacing worn or non-functional components, and adjusting and lubricating parts to ensure continued, efficient functioning of the system. Systems include window air conditioning units, rooftop units, chiller units, and reciprocating systems.
- Checks, renews or cleans filters in heating or cooling air handling equipment and ventilators. Inspects, adjust and replaces belts. Lubricates motors, bearings, pulleys, linkages and adjusts as necessary.
- Collaborates with the team to install new HVAC equipment, follows maintenance schedules, logs work accomplished, and communicates with building personnel to ascertain problems and locations of needed work.
- Participates in the training, development and mentoring of less experienced employees. Drives district-owned vehicles to assigned sites. Schedules and plans the work to meet timelines.
- Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing tasks and sharing responsibilities of other department members during peak periods or when there is an overload of duties.
- Communicates effectively with all OKCPS personnel, students, and visitors.
- Core work schedule may change due to operational needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Remote work considerations may be necessary in certain health crises or disruptive situations; eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools, with guidelines distributed by the supervisor based on role and responsibilities.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Current Oklahoma unlimited journeyman license.
- Must have valid driver’s license to operate district-owned vehicles with an acceptable driving record as determined to meet district motor vehicle insurance coverage requirements.
- Current EPA certification.
- Five (5) years experience as a journeyman in maintenance of commercial HVAC equipment.
- Two (2) years supervisory/foreman experience managing crews of multiple HVAC journeymen.
- Current Boiler Operator License or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Knowledgeable of current city codes, OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Ability to build and maintain schedules for manpower.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, design specifications and drawings for use in construction or assembly HVAC equipment.

- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
- Sitting for prolonged periods.
- Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs/ladders, work in small spaces, walk and reach overhead.
- Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
- Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
- Work involves frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions to meet business needs and deadlines.
