Ensures customers receive excellent customer service, greeting them as they enter the establishment, processing customer orders, and notifying staff of special requests. Handles payment, processes incoming cash receipts, verifies account balances and deposits, records amounts received, and prepares transaction reports.
Responsibilities- Operate a cash register and provide customer service, including tasks associated with the preparation, production, and serving of food items or related duties.
- Handle cash, count change for customers, process credit and debit cards, Sooner cards and meal plans.
- Checkout customers, applying accurate codes, departments, and prices.
- Maintain 100% accuracy of the cash register and ensure all payment transactions are carried out with precision and efficiency.
- Follow proper procedures for balancing cash drawer and all payment transactions.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service with a positive demeanor, field complaints promptly, answer questions, and make meal suggestions when asked.
- Maintain professional behavior and composure in difficult interpersonal situations.
- Communicate with co‑workers and others in a calm, considerate, respectful, and courteous manner.
- Provide efficient, friendly, and informative service following established customer service standards and departmental core purpose and values.
- Ensure the front‑end area is always stocked, orderly, organized, and clean.

- Provide routine information about meals, various restaurants within Housing and Food Services, and other relevant facts to customers.
- Lead or actively participate in customer service improvement initiatives and suggest new dishes, menus, and/or methods that lead to better service.
- Respond to any complaint and bring issues or concerns to a supervisor or HR.
- Follow up on requests with a sense of urgency.
- May work a food line, in the storeroom, or assist with cooking and cleaning, or other duties as assigned.
- May stock items, perform other tasks, or new tasks assigned by the supervisor or front‑end manager.
- Adhere to food safety standards at all times, ensuring all food is free of contaminants and pathogens that might make customers sick.
- Perform related duties as needed to successfully fulfill the position’s functions.

Skills- Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, simple accounting, and division effectively enough to count change, inventory, serve portions, and enter time on a time sheet.
- Read and interpret routine written materials, menus, instructions, and e‑mails.
- Communicate verbally and in writing.
- Provide customer service.
- Build rapport with students, faculty and staff.
- Become skilled in safe, sanitary, and effective handling of food, cooking utensils, processing equipment, walk‑in refrigeration, elevators, cash registers, food digesters, dishwashers, time clocks, etc.
- Have working knowledge of Housing and Food Services core values at all times.
- Use systems to clock in/out.
- Handle varying workloads and meet deadlines as necessary.
- Food Handlers License within 30 days of hire.
- Valid driver’s license and registration with University Driver’s Policy before driving any university vehicle.
- Physical:
- Must bend, lift, stoop, lift above shoulders and carry 30 pounds.
- Must persevere physically and mentally for fast‑paced and demanding responsibilities.
- Lift objects up to 50 lbs, and push/pull up to 100 lbs depending on assignment.
- Stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
- Climb stairs as necessary and occasionally frequently, depending on assignment.
- Perform frequent and repetitive arm and wrist movements.
- Expose to chemicals and noxious odors.
- Environmental:
- Regular exposure to extreme temperature changes, odors and loud noises.
- Adapt to a large kitchen environment with varying temperatures (-8 to 80°F).
- May perform shift work.
- Wear and maintain uniforms including head covering.
