Job Description

Registered Nurse Float Pool positions are available at levels II or III, depending on experience and education.

Float Pool offers a unique opportunity to RNs who are looking to practice in multiple skill sets. Each shift can look different as employees serve units in need. SEA Core/Float Pool supports three skill sets:
Critical Care (ICU, ED, PACU);
Medical (Med‑Surg, Step Down);
Procedural (Endoscopy, Cath Lab, Interventional, Radiology, Pre‑Op). Level of expertise determines the units an RN will float to.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Maintain certifications and competencies for all care areas supported.
  • Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards.
  • Assume responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
  • Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; note all changes in physician orders.
  • Assist physician in examination and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
  • Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe the physiological manifestations, and intervene as necessary.
  • Administer medication as prescribed.
  • Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Deliver patient care safely and competently.
  • Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
  • Inform patient and family of hospital procedures and share care plan during and at the time of discharge.
  • Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Foster a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure to develop skills required for proficiency.
  • Develop a professional career plan and establish personal, performance goals aligned with enterprise-wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership.
  • Foster an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s winning aspiration.
  • Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications – RN Float Pool II
  • Education:

    Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience:

    3–5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse; patient care experience must be obtained in the care area applied for.
  • License/Certification:
    Current Registered Nurse License (RN license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN (eNLC)). Basic Life Support certification required upon hire.
Minimum Qualifications – RN Float Pool III
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required;
    Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Experience:

    5+ years of patient care as a Registered Nurse; experience must be obtained in the care area applied for.
  • License/Certification:
    Current Registered Nurse License (RN license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN (eNLC)). Basic Life Support certification required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
  • Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Skilled in computer applications to ensure quality and safety.
  • Ability to engage and manage conflicts constructively.
  • Ability to maintain compliance accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive workplace that values diversity.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
