Overview

General Description:

An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing high-quality care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. They model the OU Health Way through core values including Patients.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards.
  • Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
  • Assists physicians in examinations and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes physiological manifestations, and intervenes when necessary.
  • Administers medications as prescribed.
  • Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Delivers patient care safely and competently.
  • Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
  • Informs patient and family of hospital procedures and shares care plan during care and at discharge.
  • Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Fosters a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, openness to coaching, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure.
  • Develops a professional career plan and personal performance goals aligned with department metrics.
  • Fosters an inclusive workforce where differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s objectives.
  • Delegates tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

RN I

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience: 0-3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
  • License/Certification: Current RN license (OK State Board of Nursing or eNLC). Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required on hire.

RN II

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
  • License/Certification: Current RN license (OK State Board of Nursing or eNLC). BLS required on hire.

RN III

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing;
    Master's preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of patient care as a Registered Nurse.
  • License/Certification: Current RN license (OK State Board of Nursing or eNLC). Specialty certifications preferred. BLS required on hire.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
  • Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with staff.
  • Ability to respond to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Proficiency with computer applications for quality and safety measures.
  • Ability to advocate for patients and maintain integrity and trust.
  • Ability to manage conflicts constructively and to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
