Overview

Job Description - Senior Oncology Research RN - CTO. The Stephenson Cancer Center’s Clinical Trials Office supports high-quality patient care and access to advanced cancer treatment options.

Responsibilities
  • Assists physician during the examination as needed. Prepares patient for examination. Ensures that all information is available to the physician.
  • Collects samples from patients (e.g., blood, urine) and prepares samples for analysis or shipment. Takes and records readings (heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.).
  • Schedules and follows up on patient appointments. Answers routine questions from patients, family, or caregivers. Provides educational information to patients, family, or caregivers.
  • Collects laboratory reports, data, and records.
  • Under the direction of physician or other medical personnel, administers medications. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient, quality patient care.
  • Responds to and intervenes in emergency situations (e.g., anaphylaxis, hypoglycemia, hypotension, hemorrhage, respiratory distress).
  • Directs and evaluates the work of staff (e.g., Clinic Clerks, Medical Assistants, other Nurses). Acts as lead employee when supervision is minimal.
  • Assists with conscious sedation of patients.
  • Performs additional duties as needed to fulfill the function of the position.
Qualifications

Required

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, AND:

  • 12 months professional RN nursing experience in oncology or clinical research experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and 24 months professional nursing (RN) experience for a total of 36 months experience.

Certifications or Licenses:

  • State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse Licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of techniques needed to diagnose and treat illness or injury, including treatment options, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health care measures.
  • Advanced knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to listen actively and ask questions when appropriate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and patients, even in stressful situations.
  • Detail oriented and organized; ability to work independently and as part of a team; basic math and computer skills.
  • Strong data accuracy and multi-project management abilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain rapport with students, faculty, staff, and providers; problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions
  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods; regular bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing.
  • Environmental: Frequent exposure to odors and exposure to human blood, blood products, bodily fluids and potential exposure to infections or diseases.
