1) – Neurology/Neurosurgery Care Unit (NNCU). Department:
Neurosciences.
Shift: Full-Time - 7P-7A (Rotating Weekends).
Location:
OU Medical Center - Oklahoma City, OK.
The Neurology/Neurosurgery Care Unit (NNCU) located in the University of Oklahoma Medical Center, Tower B, 2 East, provides care for a mixture of med/surg and stepdown patients with a focus on neuro conditions. The unit handles strokes, seizures, brain mass, encephalopathy, neck and spinal surgery, lumbar drains, and 24-7 epilepsy monitoring, including Yale swallow screening and NIHSS certification. General Description:
An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision to provide high-quality care in a hospital setting. The RN I position represents a novice to competent nurse who develops to higher levels through experience and mentorship. The role emphasizes OU Health’s core values:

- Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards.
- Assume responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; note changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
- Assist physicians in examining patients and performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data; observe patient conditions and intervene when necessary.
- Administer medications as prescribed.
- Initiate, regulate and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Deliver patient care safely and competently.
- Resolve patient complaints promptly in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
- Inform patients and families of hospital procedures and share care plans during care and at discharge.
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Foster a growth mindset through mentorship, openness to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certifications/licensure to develop nursing proficiency.
- Develop a professional career plan and establish personal performance goals aligned with department metrics.
- Foster an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s goals.
- Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
RN I
Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience: 0-3 years in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Current Registered Nurse License (OK State Board of Nursing or eNLC).
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
RN II
Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience: 3-5 years in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Current Registered Nurse License (OK State Board of Nursing or eNLC).
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
RN III
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required;
Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience: 5+ years in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Current Registered Nurse License (OK State Board of Nursing or eNLC).
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
- Specialty certifications preferred.
- Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
- Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Skilled in computer applications to ensure safety and quality for patients.
- Ability to advocate for patients and maintain integrity and trust.
- Ability to manage conflicts constructively.
- Ability to maintain compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Ability to foster an inclusive workplace where diversity is valued.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with candor, openness, integrity, and diplomacy.
