Overall ResponsibilityTo establish guidelines to identify the professional qualifications and skills required for employment in the pre-operative area for the RN. It is the Pre-Op nurse’s responsibility to formulate and execute nursing care for patients of all ages in the Pre-Op area to ensure the highest quality care, patient safety according to policy and procedure, and to perform all other tasks as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer.
KeyTasks and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Greet patients in the lobby and escort them to the pre-op testing area.
- Ensure all orders are correct for lab, EKG, and CXR as per the doctor’s standing orders. Notify the doctor of any abnormal results.
- Prepare the pre-op testing results packet, print the next day’s schedule, and pull necessary packets.
- Make pre-op calls regarding the next day’s surgery schedule.
- Maintain positive relationships with the hospital, surgery center, clinic, and physicians’ offices.
- Require analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with assertiveness.
- Licensure and Certification: BCLS certification required within 90 days of hire if not current. Active registration from the Board of Nursing in the state of licensure.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a temperature-controlled environment, read and speak English fluently, and possess cognitive skills for math, reading, and computer use. Vision and hearing adequate for the job. Ability to exert force up to 50 lbs occasionally and 20 lbs frequently, with physical activities including pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and finger dexterity. Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
Experience
Previous experience in a healthcare environment; pre-op nurse experience preferred.
