The Information Technology Specialist (Server Virtualization and Storage Administration) role is responsible for managing and maintaining the virtualization infrastructure, storage systems, and associated technologies within the organization. This role ensures optimal performance, availability, and security of server virtualization platforms and storage solutions.
Major Activities
Providing support for all IT systems including day-to-day operations and problem resolution.Assist in the support of core banking platform.Configure, deploy, and manage virtual machines (VMs) using platforms such as Hyper‑V and VMware.Monitor VM performance, resource utilization, and capacity planning.Troubleshoot virtualization‑related issues and optimize VM performance.Administer Storage Area Network (SAN) systems.Provision storage resources for servers and applications.Implement data replication, snapshots, and backup strategies.Develop disaster recovery (DR) plans and test failover procedures.Ensure data integrity and business continuity.Apply security best practices to virtualization and storage environments.Manage access controls, permissions, and encryption.Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.Participate in cross‑functional projects and initiatives.Evaluate and recommend hardware upgrades or replacements.Forecast storage requirements based on business growth, and plan for scalability and expansion.Evaluate new technologies and trends in virtualization and storage.Other duties assigned as needed.Critical Results
Ensuring that all defined systems and devices, under your area of responsibility, are fully operational and available to the employees with very little scheduled downtime.Confidentiality and security are maintained regarding information systems assets.Managing operating plans, priorities, projects, and other goals to ensure they are executed in a timely, efficient, and productive manner.Maintaining agreements according to preset timelines for report requests, task assignments and project work; including keeping current with employee requests.That all security and non‑security upgrades/updates/patches to defined systems are thoroughly tested and implemented in a timely manner.All activities are efficiently conducted, generally error free, and are completed following the appropriate policies, procedures, operational controls, and compliance controls.Losses, errors, and risks are controlled and mitigated by adhering to all applicable policies and procedures.Provide callback and after‑hour support.Qualifications
Specialized or Technical Knowledge and
Skills:
This position must be thoroughly knowledgeable at configuring/installing personal computer systems and peripherals and managing system vulnerability remediation. Being well‑versed in the area of data backup and archival is also a must. The emphasis on virtualization and storage will require the ideal candidate to demonstrate a proven ability to handle network storage hardware, knowledge of backup server software and proficiency in virtualization platforms.
In order to do so the following are required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or proven equivalent work experience.Minimum of 2‑4+ years professional IT experience.Knowledge of backup server software (e.g., Veeam).Familiarity with enterprise storage protocols (SMB/CIFS/NFS/iSCSI).Experience working in a team‑oriented, collaborative environment.Storage certifications (e.g., EMC).Hands‑on experience with storage arrays (e.g., EMC).Proficiency in virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V).Knowledge of server hardware and RAID configurations.Strong time management skills in technical environments and project management.Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.Behavioral Competencies
