Lab Assistant II – Histology – Quest Diagnostics – Oklahoma City, OK
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Pay range: $17.20+ per hour (salary offers vary by skills, experience, education, and certifications; possible annual performance bonus)
- Prepare histopathology samples and slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists using standard procedures.
- Receive, collect, label, and prepare tissue specimens for gross dissection.
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment, including cover-slipping and H&E staining (manual and automated).
- Make reagents for tissue processing and slide staining under direct supervision.
- Process paperwork related to accessioning and reporting.
- Perform assigned clerical duties and monitor pending lists as needed.
- Generate and maintain department statistics (if applicable).
- Monitor inventory, requisition supplies before depletion, and keep laboratory supplies stocked.
- Clean, sterilize, organize, and maintain work area, glassware, and equipment.
- Comply with health, quality, and safety policies; use personal protective equipment.
- Assist technical staff with limited technical functions with appropriate training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience:
One (1) year of histopathology or other laboratory experience; one (1) year handling PHI using an LIS. - Preferred
Work Experience:
Three (3) years of histopathology or other laboratory experience, including support to pathologists. - Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required); some college science courses preferred.
- Lifting and carrying objects up to 10 lb frequently; 11‑25 lb occasionally; 36‑50 lb seldom; >50 lb without assistance.
- Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods, frequent walking and standing.
- Requires manual dexterity for laboratory instruments.
- Basic knowledge of operating non‑complex instrumentation.
- Follow procedural steps accurately and retain information.
- Detail‑oriented, work independently, establish priorities, multitask efficiently.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with supervisors, coworkers, and clients.
- Handle client information confidentially.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
- Typing speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
