Job Overview
As the Controller, you will be deeply embedded in daily operations, serving as the financial partner to our firm leadership. You won't just oversee accounting; you will be the architect of our financial organization—cleaning up historical records, establishing robust internal controls, and aligning our financial processes with operational workflows to support firm growth.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Operations & Trust Accounting
- Trust & Operating Reconciliation: Oversee monthly reconciliation of trust and operating accounts, ensuring strict compliance with IOLTA requirements and audit-ready records.
- Cleanup & Accuracy: Review and organize financial records to identify and correct discrepancies in bookkeeping, payroll, and expense tracking.
- A/R & A/P Management: Systemize accounts payable workflows and lead the charge in bringing accounts receivable current by improving tracking and follow-up processes.
Strategy, Budgeting & Reporting
- Actionable Insights: Translate complex financial data into clear reports and recommendations for partners and operations leadership.
- Forecasting: Assist leadership with budgeting and cash flow forecasting to identify trends and support operational decision-making.
Process Improvement & Integration
- SOP Development: Establish and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for billing, collections, and month-end closing to ensure scalability.
- Systems Optimization: Manage accounting via Quick Books Online and support the integration of financial data with our case management software.
Required:
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial management (Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar).
- Technical Skills: High proficiency in Quick Books Online and a strong understanding of general ledger and financial reporting.
- Mindset: A hands-on, execution-focused professional who thrives in fast-moving or transitional environments.
- Location: Ability to work in-office at one of our specified locations.
Preferred:
- Legal Industry: Prior experience with law firm trust accounting and client fund management.
- Systems Thinker: Proven track record of improving A/R and A/P systems in a growing business environment.
