Position: Project Manager - Water/Wastewater (Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Oklahoma City)

Overview

Strong project managers are essential to our success. We’re looking for a project manager to lead some of the industry's best engineers while executing highly technical, complex engineering water projects.

It takes many skills to manage projects in the engineering industry—from forming and maintaining great relationships with clients and partners to successfully delivering projects, staying in step with current and future regulations, and actively seeking out the next project. We are looking for experienced project managers to join our growing South Water region.

Burns & McDonnell is a 100% employee‑owned company with a 123‑year history in the water/wastewater business. We work on a diverse range of projects in Texas and nationwide, spanning water, power, telecommunications, manufacturing, federal, transportation, facilities, and aviation.

Our South Water team is a dynamic group that focuses on the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater projects for municipal and industrial clients—spanning treatment, distribution, collection, and more. Our project managers are a vital part of our leadership team, actively developing others and shaping the types of projects we pursue. We are looking for project managers with technical backgrounds in planning, design, and/or construction.

What We Need
  • Share ideas and boldly explore technical solutions and thought leadership.
  • Bring outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills to lead project teams through challenging requirements and overlapping schedules.
  • Be excited to coach and mentor other professionals to shape tomorrow’s leaders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on all aspects of multi‑discipline engineering projects from concept to completion—including safety, quality, risk, engineering, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, and financials.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project life cycle.
  • Leverage existing client relationships, create new ones, and focus on repeat work within each client account.
  • Support business strategy for developing new business opportunities and proactively position Burns & McDonnell for upcoming projects.
  • Provide direction as part of the sales team for furthering the company’s position through events, conferences, and contacts.
  • Give guidance and industry feedback or trends to the water leadership team.
  • Provide mentorship and formal and informal training for the project team.

  • Professional registration in the state of Texas (ability to obtain Texas registration is acceptable).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to devise new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, demanding work environment and work overtime on short notice.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office.
