General

Job Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist supports or leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The role has three progressive levels—Specialist I, II, and III—each increasing in responsibility from tactical execution and inspection (Level 1) to regulatory analysis and program ownership (Level III).

Essential Job Functions

Each successive level builds on the responsibilities of the previous level.

Environmental Health and Safety Specialist I
  • Performs duties under the guidance of senior EHS staff or EHS Manager.
  • Conducts EHS inspections of departments and facilities, documents deficiencies, and tracks corrective actions.
  • Establishes and conducts safety meetings (including written agendas and minutes).
  • Complies with all company policies and business procedures.
  • Interacts with all levels of personnel, primarily with department supervisors, managers, executives, and Human Resources representatives.
  • Supports compliance with customer ground and flight safety procedures (DCMA INST 8210.1C).
  • Monitors required certifications and training for employees.
  • Develops and delivers EHS training to employees, covering:
    • Hazardous Materials and Procedures
    • Forklift Operations
    • Overhead Crane and Hoist Operation
    • Hazardous Communication
    • Respirator Training and Fit Testing
    • Proper Ergonomics
    • Hazardous Waste Management
    • Water Quality Awareness
    • Air Quality Awareness
    • General Safety Topics
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
Environmental Health and Safety Specialist II
  • Works independently to resolve moderately complex EHS compliance issues.
  • Works with department managers and Human Resources to investigate employee reports of safety concerns or violations.
  • Tracks, organizes, and updates compliance calendar and ensures timely renewal of regulatory permits.
  • Analyzes new material SDSs for VOC content and ensures compliance with applicable regulations; inputs VOC content into ERP system.
  • Ensures appropriate PPE is in place and hazards communicated based on SDS analysis.
  • Runs VOC usage reports, prints data, organizes and files reports ready for air inspector presentation.
  • Monitors total air pollutant emissions to track if permitting thresholds are approached.
  • Oversees storm‑water pollution prevention plan; ensures monitoring and compliance.
Environmental Health and Safety Specialist III
  • Reports on employee safety‑related issues directly to Human Resources.
  • Develops, updates, implements, and files company health and safety programs; maintains written procedures, manuals, and documentation.
