Position: Public Notice for Aerospace Engineer (Direct Hire)

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses more advanced than first‑year physics and chemistry in five of the following seven areas: statics, dynamics; strength of materials; fluid mechanics, hydraulics; thermodynamics; electrical fields and circuits;

nature and properties of materials; and any other comparable area such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

B. Combination of education and experience -- college‑level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and a good understanding of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

  • Professional registration or licensure – Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Written Test – Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board.
  • Specified academic courses – Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that included the courses specified in paragraph

    A.
  • Related curriculum – Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

QUALIFY AT THE FV‑G (FG/GS 5/7/9) LEVEL

You must meet the Basic Requirements as stated above.

TO QUALIFY AT THE FV‑H (FG/GS 11‑12) LEVEL

In addition to the above Basic Requirements, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to FV‑G (FG/GS 5/7/9) level. Specialized Experience may include but is not limited to collecting and analyzing flight data; performing trend analyses; developing technical reports; conducting analysis related to safety of commercial space flight systems and operations.

Education Substitution: 3 years of progressively higher‑level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree, gained from an accredited college or university. The education should provide the knowledge and skills required to do the work of the position.

Combination of education and experience may be qualifying for this position.

TO QUALIFY AT THE FV‑I (FG/GS‑13) LEVEL

In addition to the above Basic Requirements, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the FV‑H (FG/GS 11‑12) level. Specialized Experience may include but not limited to experience with airborne system software development, verification, configuration management; experience in the design, test, or certification of aircraft avionics and/or electrical systems, such as power generation and distribution, communication and navigation systems, automatic flight controls, air data systems, lightning protection, electronic systems integration, system safety analysis, and airborne electronic hardware.

QUALIFY AT THE FV‑J (FG/GS‑14) LEVEL

In addition to the above Basic Requirements, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the FV‑I (FG/GS 13) level.
