Instrumentation and Controls Technician Job Description
We are seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Technician to support field operations for water and wastewater construction projects. This role involves systems programming and maintaining automated control systems using Allen-Bradley PLC technology. The position includes tasks such as using Studio 5000, RX Logic 5000/500 to program PLCs and Factory Talk View for HMIs, troubleshooting issues, collaborating with teams, and participating in system commissioning.
Responsibilities- Create automated systems that control equipment used in water handling and water treatment processes.
- Program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to monitor and control industrial processes.
- Provide field programming services for control systems.
- Install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical rotating equipment on active construction sites.
- Collaborate with other engineers and project managers to ensure system functionality.
- Travel throughout Oklahoma and Arkansas to customer sites for installation, startup, and support of equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of service activities and system configurations.
- Proficiency in instrumentation, electrical systems, and Allen-Bradley PLC programming.
- Experience with automation and HMI programming.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and identify and resolve issues.
- Software expertise in Allen-Bradley, Studio 5000, RX Logic 5000/500, HMIs Factory Talk, and connected components.
- Ability to create and implement automation and instrumentation systems from scratch.
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical rotating equipment.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ability to work independently on construction sites.
Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in instrumentation, controls, or automation.
- Expertise in Allen‑Bradley PLC Programming Studio 5000, RX Logic 5000/500, HMIs Factory Talk.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities.
- Experience in water/wastewater, oil & gas, HVAC, or electrical contracting is a plus.
The role is primarily field‑based across Oklahoma and Arkansas, with exposure to construction sites, mechanical systems, and automation equipment. The position requires independent work with support from engineering and operations teams. There is occasional overnight travel with accommodations provided.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
