Position SummaryResponsible for supervising and training BAC technicians, specifying and ordering materials and supplies, troubleshooting, programming, maintenance, and repair of building automation systems for OKCPS district buildings.
Essential Duties- Assists Director of HVAC/EM and Energy Management Manager with the supervision and operation of all OKCPS building automation systems.
- Assists Energy Management Manager with the development and implementation of energy management strategies.
- Supervises and directs building automation control technicians.
- Provides training and technical support for building automation and HVAC technicians; performs troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of the Building Automation Systems on a routine and emergency basis.
- Conducts end-to-end testing, downloading programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects.
- Modifies controls to improve performance and/or function of processes.
- Uses configuration software and other tools to troubleshoot or upgrade system performance; reads schematic or logic diagrams to diagnose malfunctions.
- Maintains, repairs and installs instrumentation devices including controllers, transmitters, signal conditioners and related equipment.
- Develops and tests software programs.
- Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects.
- Recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and/or repairs.
- Assists in performing site-specific training for owner/operator on the total building control system; adheres to safety standards and provides safety awareness to site staff.
- Liaises with HVAC Field Technicians and contractors to provide necessary technical assistance; reports problems or changes to management.
- Interprets blueprints, schematics, and other specifications pertaining to facilities and projects; assists with project oversight by reviewing architectural drawings/project specifications and making recommendations.
- Assists with the oversight of energy management contracts/contractors.
- Provides training to staff on building control systems operations and ensures work complies with plans and specifications.
- Stays updated on current industry knowledge and BAS products.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) years in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems in the HVAC industry; strong knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and related subsystems.
- Experience with BAS system protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LON and other open technologies); ability to test and modify system software.
- Ability to read blueprints and specifications; knowledge of configuring and programming control panels.
- Advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
- Valid operator’s driver’s license with acceptable driving record per district requirements.
- Ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Mechanical Systems, or related field.
- Two (2) years Windows networking experience.
- Experience with BAS systems that include JCI, Siemens, Trane.
- EPA Certification (e.g., HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer).
- Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio (for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted).
- Manual dexterity to write legibly and operate computers.
- Visual acuity to read and transcribe; normal hearing and clear speech.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; some stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- May require work outside normal hours, including weekends, under stressful conditions to meet business needs.
- Office duties in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
