Position: Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Engineer

Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Engineer

Halff is seeking an Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Engineer to lead and support the design and execution of electrical power and instrumentation systems for midstream and upstream Oil & Gas and pipeline projects. This role combines technical design, project management support, client interaction, mentoring, and business development.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare engineering documents, drawings, plans, and specifications in coordination with Project Managers.
  • Manage multiple projects, including scheduling, resources, and quality control.
  • Perform field visits to collect data, support construction, and strengthen client relationships.
  • Lead projects, making technical recommendations and resolving complex design issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers and grow team expertise.
  • Interface with utilities, vendors, and contractors to coordinate design and installations.
  • Develop equipment specifications and perform design reviews, calculations, and system studies.
  • Apply power system analysis software (SKM, ETAP, Mil Soft, etc.) for modeling and troubleshooting.
  • Support proposals, estimates, and client presentations to help grow the business.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • 5+ years of I&E engineering experience, preferably in Oil & Gas or energy.
  • Technical leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Proficiency with industrial control systems, medium/low voltage power, protective relays, switch gear, MCCs, and distribution equipment.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, API, AGA; NESC knowledge is a plus.
  • AutoCAD and Microsoft Office proficiency; field/construction support experience preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Control systems, PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, and network architecture design.
  • Proficiency in power system analysis software.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area electrical classification.
Personal Competencies
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build client confidence and manage multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset with willingness to mentor and learn.
  • Travel up to ~10%.
