Overview

Student Assistants administratively support professional staff members in all duties associated with meeting the needs of students through the Office of Student Life. Student Life operates within the fundamental principles of student development theory in order to provide a variety of programs and services that support students in their pursuit of a successful higher education experience. Programs and services offered include service learning, campus activities, employment, programming, clubs and organizations, leadership activities, and special events.

Reports To Director of Student Life. What position(s) reports to this position? None.

Minimum Education /Experience
  • Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.
  • or Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.

  • Customer service experience
  • Positive interpersonal skills

  • Adequate spelling and grammar
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Typing (speed is not a requirement)

Physical Demands / Working Conditions
  • General physical requirements:
    Medium work. May exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 10 pounds constantly to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.

    Frequently move about the Office of Student Life and the OCCC campus; frequently communicate with administration, faculty, staff, students, and others; exchange accurate information.

Work hours are varied but will include occasional evening and weekend hours.

Job Duties
  • Provide general office support
  • Assist with data entry and assessment of Student Life programs and events
  • Update and maintain campus bulletin boards
  • Collect and log comment and suggestion cards
  • Create and distribute Student Life promotional materials
  • Preparation and execution of all types of Student Life programming
  • Help students with resume/cover letter preparation
  • Assist students in the navigation of on-campus and off-campus job boards
  • Provide information related to Student Life and OCCC to the community at large
  • Serve as a positive student role model
  • Assist with program set up – may include lifting, moving and transporting objects up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to drive a college vehicle with passengers
  • Assist with support to other OCCC offices as assigned by Student Life professional staff
  • Maintain the organization of Student Life supplies, materials, and Student Life managed areas
  • Assist with Civic Honors presentations and sign-ups

  • Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures
  • Contribute to a safe educational & working environment
  • Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for injury and illness prevention
  • Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s procedures
  • Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, and shelter drills
