Santa Fe South West Middle School opened in the 2023–2024 school year and is a growing campus intentionally designed to serve the Southwest Oklahoma City community. Position SummaryThe following is a framework for Santa Fe South Counselors. Specific roles vary from site to site. Santa Fe South Counselors serve as a support for all students, providing guidance and addressing individual needs. Our Counselors work with the Site Administration and Director of Counseling to ensure students are receiving proper services. The Counselors work as a team within the District to bring equity and promote a positive culture throughout the District.
Counselors assess and follow protocol for any instances where a child or anyone is in danger, including but not limited to suicide ideation, concerns regarding child abuse or neglect, and threats to self or others. Counselors work with families regarding excessive absences to stress the importance of attendance and address any needs the family might have.
Counselors provide guidance lessons and/or group information when applicable and work with Site Administrators to promote a positive culture where students are cared for so that they can thrive socially and academically. Secondary counselors also play a critical role in preparing students for post‑secondary opportunities.

Counseling Services- Academic planning:
Assist students in appropriate course selection, monitor their progress toward completion of graduation requirements, and develop post‑secondary plans. - Provide individual and small group counseling to students to address academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Help students develop coping strategies, emotional regulation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Advocate for students’ mental health and overall well‑being.
- Conduct assessments and implement appropriate interventions for student support.
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and school staff to create a supportive learning environment.
- Maintain open communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Participate in school‑wide initiatives, professional learning communities, and community outreach efforts.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of student interactions and progress.
- Develop, implement, and review individualized 504 or support plans for students.
- Provide case management services, connecting families with external resources when necessary.
- Respond to immediate mental health needs and connect families to outside agencies (e.g., Family & Children’s Services).
- Assess and respond to situations where students are at risk of harm, including suicide ideation, child abuse, neglect, and threats to self or others.
