About This Position
To develop in each student the skills of critical thinking and to help students learn the subject matter presented to them in order for that student to become a positive member of the community. To serve as an instructor for the Municipal Fire Protection degree program. Continuous assignment based on program need and funding availability.
Essential Job Functions- Maintain student and course records with updates on the learning management system.
- Maintain and file current course outlines, objectives and grading procedures for all courses.
- Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.
- Completes all mandatory training.
- Fulfill all requirements as noted in the Adjunct Handbook.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree in a related field (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date).
- Minimum three years with a fire department.
- Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
- Knowledge in fire department operations, management, and leadership functions.
- Ability to update curriculum to meet changing trends in the fire service.
- Ability to present material in the traditional or online classroom environment.
- Ability to conduct formative and summative assessment of student learning.
- Ability to create and maintain a positive learning environment, displaying and requiring professionalism in all classroom activities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with fire department representatives on meeting program goals and learning outcomes.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately.
- Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to a multicultural environment in an effort to work and communicate effectively with all students, faculty, staff and community partners.
- High degree of initiative to work independently and also collaborate in a team environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
- Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.
- Bachelor's degree.
Fire Instructor I & II, Executive Fire Officer, Fire Officer designation.
Skills, Proficiencies, And/or KnowledgePrevious teaching or training officer experience.
