Responsibilities
MAJOR DUTIES
Identifies and treats occupational injuries and illnesses, or provides for choice of private physician. Sees
injured patients as a priority, makes diagnoses and provides appropriate treatment or transfers patient to other
definitive health care facility, if necessary. Uses specialized medical or scientific training to recognize and exploit
new ideas in the approach to early diagnosis of work related conditions. Responsible for making proper disposition
of patients when cases warrant further specialized treatment. Provides first aid or palliative care for minor nonoccupational
disorders to enable the employee to complete the workday before seeing their private physician.
Accomplishes surveillance occupational physical examinations (pre-placement, periodic, termination, Fitness
for Duty, Temporary Duty (TDY), and Overseas Clearance) and makes appropriate recommendations from
findings. Appropriately reviews occupational health work place exposure data, such as noise dosimetry or air
sampling for chemicals, to ensure proper medical surveillance for such hazards. Interprets radiology,
electrocardiogram, pulmonary: function tests, and lab results that are performed in the evaluation, treatment, or
disposition of patients and appropriately explains results to patients.
Actively participates in the Medical Worksite Visit Program in order to identify, eliminate, or control health
