Come join the staff at OU HSC and become a part of Oklahoma's premier research university which leads the state in education and career opportunities. This position performs chair-side dental assisting in the Graduate Orthodontic clinic.
Duties:
- Provides chair side dental assistance, prepares and sterilizes equipment.
- Document patient care.
- Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays).
- May provide administrative assistance.
- Assists the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures to include but not limited to placement of spacers, wires, brackets, expanders, and other orthodontic treatments.
- Prepares set-up trays for orthodontic dentistry.
- Prepares dental equipment and materials for treatment.
- Performs patient charting as instructed by the dentist.
- Follows infection control protocol and prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
- Greets patient and gets them situated in the treatment room.
- Provides patients with instructions for oral care following installation of appliances/ dental treatment procedures.
- Takes impressions of patient's teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
- May perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer.
- Schedules appointments, answers phones, data entry, and orders supplies.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.
Required
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow outlined policies and guidelines.
- Ability to provide patient care and customer service.
- Ability to multitask
- Must have a professional and positive attitude.
Certifications:
- Current Oklahoma Dental Assistant Permit or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Current CPR Certification
