The Accountant will possess an advanced understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), government contracting accounting practices, and related financial regulations. This role requires an experienced professional capable of operating with a high level of autonomy while collaborating cross-functionally with finance, contracts, and program teams.

Under the guidance of senior leadership, this position will support and oversee key accounting functions including journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end close, financial analysis, and compliance with federal contracting requirements.

This individual should be a proactive problem-solver who can contribute strategically to process improvement, accuracy, and financial integrity across the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
  • Support and oversee core accounting functions, including journal entries (JEs), accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Assist in the review and analysis of financial records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and government contracting standards.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, invoices, cost summaries, and supporting documentation for internal leadership and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Utilize and maintain bookkeeping and accounting software/ERP systems; recommend improvements to workflows where applicable.
  • Support compliance with federal contracting requirements, including understanding allowable vs. unallowable costs and proper cost allocation methodologies.
  • Partner with program management, contracts, and finance teams to monitor project costs, budgets, and financial performance.
  • Assist with audits or external reviews (e.g., DCAA, DCMA, or internal audits) by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Handle sensitive or confidential financial information with professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation practices.
  • Mentor or support junior accounting staff as needed, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Take on special projects related to financial analysis, process optimization, or system enhancements as assigned.
  • 8+ years of experience in Accounting or related field required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Master's degree in Accounting or related field preferred
  • CPA certification or willingness to obtain preferred
  • Experience working with or in DoD contracting strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of GAAP and government contracting principles (FAR/DFARS familiarity preferred)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments
  • Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint required
  • Experience with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Costpoint, Unanet, Net Suite, SAP, or similar) preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and execute work with urgency while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
