The Pool Server is responsible for providing exemplary service at the Ojai Valley Inn Pools. Duties include hosting and welcoming guests, seating, clearing and resetting lounge chairs, cabanas, and tables, refreshing drinks, and set up and break down of all pool areas. The Pool Server enhances the guest experience, engages with guests, anticipates their needs, and follows luxury standards, ensuring correct billing and orderly dining area breakdown after service.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate knowledge of The Ojai Valley’s practices, culture, terminology, organizational structure, and philosophy; portray this in professional appearance, behavior, integrity, openness, and accessibility to employees and guests.
- Maintain a friendly yet unobtrusive manner with all guests throughout their dining experience; promote teamwork and a harmonious working climate.
- Recognize and address potential intoxicated, disruptive, or undesirable guests; properly handle and report employee guest accidents; respond properly to hotel emergencies or safety situations.
- Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by the supervisor, manager, or resort management.
- Offer guests an enjoyable, expertly served beverage/dining experience conforming to Service and Training Manual; actively greet guests, smile, make eye contact, and speak clearly as they enter the pool area.
- Set up Mise en Place, follow a checklist, prepare menus, servers book, pens, etc.; ensure areas are prepped for the day.
- Maintain station ownership: ensure all tables are thoroughly proofed, coordinate plans for the day, and keep tools of the trade on person during shift.
- Keep pool and Back of House areas neat, clean, and organized; practice a "clean as you go" philosophy.
- Greet guests promptly (within 30 seconds when possible); greet parties by name and provide menus; introduce yourself and confirm party size and reservation details.
- Escort cabana guests to assigned cabanas, prepare seating, and transfer special requests to the appropriate server.
- Take orders accurately, write them down, and confirm with guests; recommend beverages and menu items; ensure temperatures and modifiers are recorded; use suggestive selling when appropriate.
- Record orders in the POS system, transfer order numbers, and ensure beverages are delivered promptly (within 3 minutes) and in the correct sequence.
- Serve from the right, clear from the right, pass from the left; serve ladies first; ensure first course arrival within 8 minutes where applicable.
- Provide sauces and seasoning as needed; remove soiled dishes promptly; maintain service pace to minimize gaps between courses.
- Monitor guest satisfaction, inform management if service is delayed, and offer refills as needed; ensure beverages remain full while the guest departs.
- Clear tables after main courses; move toward presenting dessert options and deliver desserts within 5 minutes of ordering; clear the table after all courses are completed, leaving beverages as desired.
- Present checks, collect signatures (room charges when applicable), and ensure correct tender, discounts, and MOD approvals; log voids and sign-offs as required; finalize tips accurately.
The Server is responsible for maintaining the appearance of their station before leaving and must complete closing Side Work duties daily and check out with the MOD.
Qualifications- One year in a restaurant environment.
- Possess a positive, outgoing and friendly personality.
- Ability to follow the OVI standards of Presentation, Body Language, and Verbiage.
- Ability to work cohesively with other employees as part of a team.
- High school graduate.
- Reading, writing, and oral proficiency in English.
- Ability to work a flexible work week including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English with guests, vendors, management, and co-workers.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and maintain professional appearance, behavior, integrity, and discretion.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments; follow directions; maintain safety and emergency procedures.
- Ability to stay calm and courteous in demanding situations and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of the hotel’s standards, policies and procedures; ability to work with other departments; discretion and confidentiality of guest information.
